As usual, we could not make it early morning. But, we started around 9 am. And destination was quite far about 100km from Calangute, but it's worth while you 're gonna visit the paradise of Goa. Less hippies, stretched golden beaches, absolute peace are the words that describes South Goa. We just had little brunch at Margao on the way and then we directly went to Agonda beach. The well directed National Highway 17 was an absolute treat to drive on. You just need to keep eye on the road side directions.
Agonda, a 3 km long pristine stretch of beach, is a great spot for sunbathing, relaxing with still relatively few bunch of forefinger. Though the waters here cannot be counted as ideal for swimming. Agonda is generally cheaper, quieter, hassle-free and has much less "touristic" feel. There is no hotel, only beach shacks and banglows are available for staying. Agonda beach is famous for giant Ridley turtle nesting site. These animals are endangered. Please keep the noise level and the lights down at night at the beach to give them a chance to nest.
Palolem was our next and final destination. Palolem is the most picturesque beach in all of Goa. It is a natural bay surrounded by lofty headlands on either sides and lined with towering coconut palms, resulting in a calm, idyllic sea with a gently sloping bed.
First, we hired a boat @800 bucks per head for Dolphin Point, Monkey Island, Butterfly Beach and Honeymoon Beach. And we buddies started with Bud.
We are lucky to see some Dolphins at that high sun. Dolphins are usually seen in bulk in the morning or at the time of sunset. Anyways, we were taken to Honeymoon Beach then.
Honeymoon Beach, in one line, is total seclusion. the water here is pristine clear, where you can easily see upto 3-4 feet. The beach is very small surrounded by rocks and thick forest. It felt great to spend some time out from the chaos of city.
The next destination was much awaited Butterfly Beach. And the problem started here. Butterfly Beach is the only beach in Goa where only foreign tourists are allowed; which we were unaware of and the boatman also didn't tell us at the start. Butterfly beach is a very small and steep beach. It's said that it's so deep that one can dive from the beach into the water. There are only two way to reach this beautiful beach, one is by boat which is inaccessible for Indians and the second way is a two hours trek through the forest from Agonda beach.
And the problem goes further as the boatman did not take us to Monkey island either. Let's not discuss on this. Anyways, Jethu went for Kayaking and Judha went to enjoy the calm water of Arbian sea. For your information, there is no water sport in Palolem beach.
Jishu and Me went further to explore more. There is a high land at the southern part of the beach. One can have a spectacular view of Palolem from here.
Further crossing that highland there is a very small and tiny beach with some beach huts. But the sunset from here is the best I have ever seen.
There is nothing more to say after the exotic sunset. We headed back to Calangute, drop Judha at Margao as he needed to visit his sister. At dinner, we had best food of our tour with Red Snapper Fillet again from Capricorn. We drank all night long in the room at the beach in every possible way. Sorry, we're not at the state to say "Good Night".
