Wanderous Malvan: Tranquil Tarkarli & Boat Ride at Karli Backwaters

After the long sleepless journey and eventful first day at Malvan, we all were very tired and went to bed early. But before going to bed, I called up the hotel boy to fix a boat ride in the early morning.

So, next day early morning, we were out for boat ride at Karli River which costs 1500 bucks for a boat. We're lucky as there's a boys group who also wants to go on a boat ride and share the cost. Boat starts from some point of estuary of Karli river.

Our first destination was Dolphin Point, where we didn't find even the fin of dolphins. However, the feel was awesome on a floating boat in the middle of the sea. We forwarded towards our next destination Nivati Beach. This beach offers peace and serenity to independent travelers. Fishermen are seen launching their traditional boats and nets daily into the sea is an interesting feature to watch on this beach. But the surroundings en-routing Nivati offers some spectacular golden rock structures.

We spent around half an hour at the beach and moved for the next point.

The boatman said some name for the next point which I can't recall. But, it's like a sand island which stays under water at the time of high tide. We didn't get down there but experienced marvelous view from the boat itself. Hundreds of sea gulls are out for fishing and sun bathing at the sandy island.

As we got back to the Karli backwaters, we saw a beautiful house made in Kerala style. Our last stop was Tsunami island. This island at the river mouth was discovered after Tsunami strikes, and hence named after it. Tsunami island is little happening compared to other places as it boosts water sports and some stalls. Lots of small red crabs are seen here.

Sadly but till then, we hadn't got the time to go to Tarkarli beach. I kept the best part for the last. But we are already late, so couldn't spend much time there.

Way to Tarkarli Beach

MTDC Resort, Tarkarli

Tarkarli is a long, narrow, tranquil white sand beach with pristine water. The south extension of the beach is known as Devbag beach. It's said the on a clear day, one can see the bed unto a depth of 20 ft. It presents a panoramic view with tall 'Shuru' trees in the background. You'll find lots of star fishes on the beach. They come with the waves hit the shore and get under the sand leaving a star shape.

Tarkarli is the best beach I have ever been to. Guys who are planning to go there, make sure you've atleast 3 days in hand to enjoy the trip.
